John is a four-time Emmy Award-winning writer/producer of American documentary film and media. He created the California Story Company as a collaborative incubator for work with leading visual journalists, interactive designers, composers and principled clients. A Northern California native, he has reported and produced work across the United States, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. 

Lance Murphey

Cinematographer/Editor/Co-Producer

Lance is a two-time Emmy Award-winning photojournalist and filmmaker. As the leader of The Story Speaks, his work draws on 20 years of experience, much of it as a staff photographer at The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal, and has appeared in The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post and The Christian Science Monitor. Based in Boulder, Lance is a 1988 graduate of the University of Colorado.

Jonathan Kirkscey

Composer

As an arranger and performer, Jonathan has collaborated with artists ranging from Cat Power to Smokey Robinson. He scored the acclaimed 2018 documentary on Mister Rogers, “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” and received the International Documentary Association’s award for best original music for “Best of Enemies,” centered on the televised clash between Gore Vidal and William F. Buckley. He is based in Memphis, Tenn.

Emil Friis

Composer

Emil is a virtuosic singer-songwriter and composer whose work has been widely featured in the United States and Europe. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, he has scored many of the Danish.

Broadcasting Corp.’s prestigious documentary projects. His music has been featured in productions by CBS, Warner Bros., Canal+, Discovery Networks and more.

Kolin Pope

Animation Director

Kolin is an illustrator, animator and audio producer. He has received two Emmy nominations for online animated features, and is a former member of The Washington Post’s video team. He also creates work for Chicago Winter Company, which fashions interactive graphics for legal proceedings worldwide.

Elettra Fiumi

Co-producer

Elettra leads Fiumi Studios, a full-service production and online content strategy company based in New York City and Lugano, Switzerland. An award-winning director, producer, cinematographer and editor, her work includes documentaries for Netflix, Amazon, Siemens, Whatsapp, Airbnb, The New Yorker and the BBC.

Autumn Moran

Cinematographer

Autumn is a New York-based director of photography and Local 600 camera operator. Her documentary credits include serving as camera operator on “The Remix” (Tribeca Film Festival, 2019) and “Half the Picture” (Sundance Film Festival, 2018).

Tom Pietrasik

Cinematographer/Editor

Tom is a cinematographer and photographer with wide array of global experience, including extensive time working in Scotland and India. His clients have included Oxfam, Save the Children and United Nations-affiliated organizations, along with media outlets including The New York Times and The Guardian.

Sybil Rodgers

Senior Project Manager

Sybil brings more than 15 years of brand and design agency experience. She spent four years in R/GA’s Brand Development Group as the lead producer, where she led cross-disciplinary projects for Google, Audible, Disney and Nike, among others. She is based near New York City.

Animadocs creates a diverse variety of media content: story-driven feature films, TV and online series, independent and commissioned shorts, educational videos, viral human rights campaigns, installation art and more. Founded by Maria Stanisheva in 2016, the expertise of Animadocs spans across all stages of animation and documentary production to deliver powerful and visually unique content.

Unified Field creates content-rich, experiential and interactive media for next-generation digital branding, media environments and exhibits in public spaces. Our New York-based collaborator works with major museums, Fortune 500 corporations and cultural institutions to position them for the future by forging new ground in the application of new media technologies. Their work has been recognized by awards from the American Alliance of Museums, SEGD, TEA, and Communication Arts, among others.
